Description

Chromic Gut Absorbable Suture is composed of purified connective collagen tissue derived from natural sources. The suture is treated with chromic salt to increase its resistance to absorption and to reduce tissue reactivity. This treatment prolongs the strength retention and absorption time compared to plain gut sutures. 

The suture features a taper point needle, which provides smooth penetration through soft tissues with minimal trauma. This needle design is optimal for delicate tissues, allowing precise placement without causing excessive tissue damage. The size 2/0 suture offers an appropriate balance of strength and finesse for many surgical applications, especially in areas requiring moderate tensile strength.

Chromic gut sutures typically maintain tensile strength for approximately 10 to 14 days, after which gradual absorption occurs. Complete absorption usually happens within 70 days, depending on tissue type and patient factors. This property makes chromic gut sutures ideal for use in rapidly healing tissues where prolonged suture support is not necessary.
